At Buckeye Nursery, emphasis is on producing
QualitySeedlings. Months before the genetically-improved seed is planted, the nursery
operations team- with 60 plus years of combined experience-prepares the seedbed by rotating
cover crops, adding organic matter and nutrients, and adjusting the pH to
between 5.0 and 5.5.

NURSERY
PRACTICES
include crop rotation, growing at
optimum density, root undercutting and lateral pruning, root coating and
field packaging.
-
Buckeye Nursery QualitySeedlings have an
excellent survival history even during drought years.
We spare no effort to ensure that Buckeye
QualitySeedlings are healthy seedlings that are the proper height and
diameter. To accomplish this,
SEEDLING DENSITY is carefully regulated, roots are undercut and pruned
laterally, soil moisture is monitored and maintained through irrigation, and the
seedlings are protected from insects and disease.
WHOLE-BED LIFTERS are utilized to safeguard the fibrous
root system and associated mycorrhizae. Seedlings are
packaged in the field within moments of lifting to minimize moisture stress and
to maximize seedling vigor.
QualitySeedlings are growing into
thriving forests in the south -
not just for large industrial tree farmers, but for all tree farmers, and
ultimately for all who depend on our forest for wood products, clean water,
environmental protection, recreational opportunities, and other valuable
products.
