Slash Pine (Pinus elliottii)
Engelmann 1880 |
| |
Slash Pine is a
fast-growing commercial tree common to the southeastern United States.
Because of its abundant seed production, it has replaced Longleaf Pine naturally
on large areas protected from fire. Second growth stands of Slash Pine
form a large part of the pine forest in the southeast. |
|
| |
The Loblolly is the most popular commercial
timber species in the southeastern United States. It is one of the fastest
growing pines and thrives on various sites from east Texas to southern Missouri
to north Florida to south New Jersey. A mature Loblolly stands over 90 feet in
height with a clear bole that ranges from 16 to 30 inches in diameter at breast
height. Classified as a Southern Yellow Pine, the Loblolly produces many
valuable products, such as pulp and lumber. |
